2 Corinthians 3:14 – “But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.”
When Paul wrote this there were many Jews who just couldn’t see that Jesus was/is the Messiah. They look at the Old Testament Law and Covenant as being the thing that is ‘glorious’. However, when you read this verse in its context you’ll see that Paul refers to the story of Moses when he had met with God and received the Law and his face, literally, was shining (Exodus 34)! Paul states that that shining glory eventually faded from Moses’ face (vs.13). In other words… as awesome as it was… it didn’t last! However, when one sees Jesus, they’ll better understand God’s true glory… it’s not the Law… it’s HIM! And it lasts!
I love the Old Testament, but truly it can only be accurately understood in the light of Jesus Christ. When the Old Testament is read without Jesus in mind, it can seem as though salvation is found in keeping a list of rules, or in understanding feasts and festivals. Not so! Salvation is found in Jesus alone (Acts 4:12).
How I long to be a man that has the eyes of my understanding opened that I might see Jesus today… not only in His Word (Old and New Testaments), but all throughout my day… in others, in opportunities He gives me. May you and I bring glory to Him in all we say and do… for truly, that is all that will last.
Much love!
