QUESTIONS FOR YOUR SMALL GROUP OR FAMILY DEVOTIONS:
READ Luke 11:27-36. What was the biggest thing you took from this message?
Why does Jesus turn around the blessing shouted to him in verse 27? What is He emphasizing here?
Why is Jesus upset about “this generation“? What is the sign of Jonah (see John 1:17)? How is Jesus like that? What is Jesus’ point concerning the queen and the people of Jonah’s time?
In verses 34-36 what does the light represent? What about the darkness?
Pastor Michael referred to Samson looking at women, Lot looking at the ‘green’ (money), and Saul looking at the competition (his pride) and then how each of them ended up in darkness (Samson literally blinded, Lot ending up in a dark cave in horrible immorality, and Saul in a dark witch’s hut seeking direction from evil and wrong things). Talk about how we are what we look at and what we look at is what we become.
Read Hebrews 12:1-2. How should Christians “run the race”? What does it mean to “throw off sin and hindrances”? To “run with perseverance”? To “fix our eyes on Jesus”? What part do ‘distractions’ play in all this?
How would you score on a spiritual sight-exam: 20/20? 20/80? Colorblind? Why?
