Easter 2019

1 Corinthians 15:14,17

Joined service with Telluride Christian Fellowship at Hanley Rink in Telluride, CO.

QUESTIONS:

Why is Easter so important to the Christian faith? READ 1 Corinthians 15:14,17. Why does Paul put such an emphasis on this one event?

Mary Magdalene suffered with spiritual attack and being an outcast before meeting Jesus, and then He turned her life around. Because of what He did for her she loved Him radically. When she finally realized that He was alive, the One who had delivered her, accepted her, forgiven her, loved her unconditionally, the One she thought she’d lost forever, what was her reaction? How is it like Thomas’ reaction when he first realized Jesus was really alive? What should our reaction(s) be?

Pastor Michael mentioned that we live in a culture where everyone believes THEY have the truth, yet everyone is saying different things. Talk about the three ‘proofs’ he mentioned that were so important to him in believing in the resurrection:

  • ‘What the Bible says’ – How men and women are portrayed in the Scriptures speaks of it’s authenticity.
  • What other historians have said, those that were even hostile towards the Gospel (Josephus, Plinius Secundus, Cornelius Tacitus, Gaius Suetonius Tranquillas, Lucian, The Talmud, etc)
  • How the original eye-witnesses lived AFTER the resurrection, and how they each gave their lives.

Pastor Ketrich spoke of how Peter was a person who was given a second chance and probably dealt with feelings of disappointment in himself. Have you ever felt like that? If so, did Jesus give you a second chance and speak anything to you?

Re-read John 20:29 and talk about how Jesus calls us today ‘blessed’… why?

EXTRA QUESTIONS:

What did you think of two churches joining together on a holiday like Easter? Why is that a good, or bad, thing? Other than the message that Jesus is alive… what message does this send to the community? How important is this? Read John 13:35.

Why would only The Alpine Chapel and Telluride Christian Fellowship join together, and not the other two churches in our small town? Would that be okay? Does Amos 3:3 fit into this discussion?
