QUESTIONS FOR SMALL GROUPS TO HELP DIG DEEPER INTO THE MAIN MESSAGE: ‘For What It’s Worth’

READ TEXT: Luke 15:8-10. Jesus is showing a characteristic of God that the people back then had never seen or even thought of before, and that’s of a loving God that actually passionately pursues those that are lost. How do you think people view God today? Why?

Pastor Michael stated that this woman is a beautiful picture of the work of the Holy Spirit and the two things she did to find the lost coin are two things that the Holy Spirit does, as well. The next two questions deal with this:

How is the woman lighting a lamp to find the lost coin a picture of what the Holy Spirit does? [HINT: Psalm 119:105] Pastor Michael mentioned that he literally ‘heard God speak to him‘. At first, did that freak you out a little? How did God speak to him.

How is the woman sweeping the dirty floor also a picture of what the Holy Spirit does? [HINT: John 16:7-8]

READ Mark 12:15-17. What is Jesus’ meaning here? [HINT: Imago Dei]

What are you worth to God? How do you know this? Go around the group and have every person think of one Bible verse that answers this question. [HINT: Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:14, Song of Solomon 4:7, Isaiah 49:15, Matthew 10:31, Luke 12:6-7, John 3:16, Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 6:20, 1 John 3:1, Ephesians 2:4-7, 1 Peter 2:9, etc… ]

Family Discussion Questions for the Children’s Message: Hezekiah and Josiah”

Choose a volunteer to read aloud 2 Chronicles 34:30-31.

Ask the following questions and Lead your family to discuss:

  1. Why is the Bible important for knowing God? Guide kids to identify the Bible as the Word of God. Lead them to think of the Bible as God’s love letter to His people. It tells us what God has done to rescue sinners. We know who God is and who we are because of what God has said in His Word.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read Ps. 119:9-11.)
  2. How can we show we treasure God’s Word? Invite kids to discuss evidence that the Bible is important to a person. Help them identify ways to treasure God’s Word through reading the Bible regularly, studying the Scriptures, memorizing Scripture, telling others about the Bible, and so forth.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read Ps. 119:103.)
  3. Why is it good news that Jesus obeyed God perfectly? Prompt kids to recognize that Jesus never sinned. When we trust in Him, we—who have failed to obey God perfectly—are counted righteous before God. Jesus’ perfect obedience is credited to us and our sins are forgiven. Emphasize that we obey God not to earn His acceptance but in response to the unconditional acceptance we already have through Christ.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read Phil. 2:8.)
