Lipstick on a Pig

Luke 8:26-39

The following are questions meant to stir up discussion with you and your family, or small group, during the week following the past weekend’s message. The purpose is to dig deeper into the main ideas of the message. This might be a wonderful way to have a quick family devotion time!

When you hear the term “demon”, what comes to your mind? Is it a term that scares you?

In the passage the demons immediately recognize who Jesus is, “the Son of the Most High God”. James 2:19 tells us that demons believe and tremble, how should followers of Christ be different?

How do we know that Jesus is not on the same level as a demon? Why are the Jehovah’s Witness’ and the Mormons views of Jesus and Satan being equals wrong? Why are their views dangerous?

The demons would drive this poor man into the wilderness. We’re told that Jesus, too, was driven into the wilderness, but not by demons, by the Holy Spirit (Matt 4:1 & Luke 4:1). Why did Pastor Michael say that was interesting? What does the enemy seek to do to us in the wilderness times? What does the Holy Spirit seek to do to us in the wilderness times? Why?

The pigs would rather have drowned than be filled with the demons, how does suicide or “cutting” possibly relate to this?

Why do you think Jesus never forces Himself on anyone?

Jesus is asked three questions in this passage. Were His answers what you’d expect? Why or why not?

Pastor Michael shared how this delivered demoniac went on to change the world in a way that, possibly, no one else could have. What did he mean by that?

Where has God deposited you to make a difference? How does Revelation 12:11 relate?
