Shaken… Not Stirred

Luke 11:37-54

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DIG DEEPER FOR YOUR FAMILY DEVOTIONS OR SMALL GROUP:

READ Luke 11:37-54. What was something that you took from this message?

What is the natural and the surprising thing Jesus does to open this scene (verse 38)?

In your own words, what is the meaning of these three woes directed at the Pharisees (verses 42-44)?

Discuss this quote: “It’s possible to give without loving, but it’s impossible to truly love without giving“.

Read Numbers 19:16. Understanding this, what is Jesus really saying to these guys in verse 44? How can we apply that to our lives and walks with God today?

What does Jesus mean by “key of knowledge” in verse 52? How had these fellas taken that away from the common people?

Typically, Jesus is thought of as “meek and mild.” What is the significance of this passage’s presentation of Jesus for you?

Of the six woes spoken by Jesus, three to the Pharisees and three to the Experts in the Law, which one(s) speak to you? Any of them have your name on them?

What do you think of the idea that we should ask God to “shake us“? Why would we ever do such a thing?

In the chocolate milk example, what is the significance of allowing the shaking to make us a “whole new thing”? Do you ever leave a Bible study, personal devotion, or message feeling ‘stirred up’ but not truly shaken? What’s the difference?
