Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Mark 6:7-14a

Summary of Message: An APOSTLE [apostello], literally means ‘to send someone with a special commission to represent another and to accomplish that person’s work’. Jesus has chosen us to show this world HIM. This may seem crazy to us, but He doesn’t send us out without some interesting instructions. This passage gives us some incredible insights on what a true Apostle should be.

Questions for your Family Devotions or Small Group:

1. Review Mark6:7-14a.What was something the Lord used to speak to you personally in this message?

2. Which of the following points spoke most to you?

  • Alongside other believers
  • Preach like Jesus
  • Open to Different
  • Stay where HOSPITALITY is shown
  • Trust in the Holy Spirit
  • Leave when it’s HOSTILE
  • Enabled by God’s Commands
  • Shine for Jesus and not ourselves

3. Discuss how Christianity is viewed by people in your family, at your workplace, in your neighborhood, at your school, on television and in our culture? Why is this their view? Why do you believe that God chooses to reveal Himself to the world using imperfect people like us? Does the Bible tell us why? Where? (1 Cor. 1:27)

4. Read Acts 13:46-52. Do you think Paul and Barnabas were acting according to what Jesus had taught? Were they ‘giving up’? When can a person know when they have crossed a line from ‘declaring’ to ‘imposing’? Has anyone ever done this with you concerning religion or perhaps something else (salesperson, etc.)?

5. How can we as Jesus-followers ensure that those we interact with in life are left seeing JESUS and not anything else? (2 Corinthians 2:15-17)
