The Crowd at the Cross

Luke 23:32-49

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DIG DEEPER INTO THE MAIN MESSAGE: ‘The Crowd at the Cross’

What are some ways a suicide can affect a small community like ours? What should we, as Christians, say to those we meet who are grieving and asking hard questions after suffering a loss?

Read Luke 23:32-49. Briefly describe each of the following groups of people and what verses in our text you find them in. Which group would you consider you’d fit in currently?

  • The CRITICALLY RELIGIOUS
  • The CRITICALLY SECULAR
  • THE CARELESS
  • THE CURIOUS
  • THE CONFUSED
  • The COURAGEOUSLY CONTRITE

Read Revelation 3:15-16. Describe the characteristics of a “Lukewarm” Christian. How exactly does someone become ‘close to the cross, but far from the Christ’?

Read Matthew 25:31-34. On what basis does Jesus say people are divided into sheep and goats? Their beliefs? Their actions? Their character? Their treatment of others? “eany-meany-miny-moe”?

Jesus answered the contrite criminal’s request, even when the guy could offer Jesus NOTHING in return. Why would Jesus do such a thing?
