TREASURE: part 1

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DIG DEEPER

FOR YOUR SMALL GROUP OR FAMILY DEVOTIONS:

Pastor Michael mentioned that the slogan of early eras was, “You CAN have it all” and that in the early 80’s the slogan began to shift to, “You SHOULD have it all”. He mentioned that this philosophy permeated even into the preaching that we began to hear in America. For example, one well-known preacher epitomized this philosophy with the following statement, “If the mafia can ride around in Lincoln Continental town cars, why can’t the King’s kids?” Now read Luke 16:14-15. What is “highly revolting” to the Lord?

Describe what ‘GREED’ is. Talk about a time when you or someone near you has been ‘greedy’? Read Colossians 3:5. Why does the apostle Paul single out ‘greed’ as idolatry? What does that even mean?

John D. Rockefeller was once asked, “How much money will be finally be enough for you?” His answer was, “Just one dollar more.” The ‘monster of greed’ seems to never be satisfied… why do you think that is?

Read Luke 12:16-21. In Jesus’ story, He calls the man in the story a ‘fool’. Pretty harsh. Why do you thing this kind of language is used by Jesus?

How would you describe to a person that is newer in their faith what Luke 12:21 means?

Why do you think that 1 Timothy 6:10 is so often misquoted by people (“money is the root of all evil”)?
